Tucker Carlson Confirms Interviewing Putin, Says It’s His Job As A Journalist

Former Fox News prime time host Tucker Carlson on Tuesday (6 January) confirmed the much-rumored news surrounding him.

Tucker said that he was in Moscow to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Tucker Carlson, who’s on his first trip to Russia, has been in Moscow since 1 February.

According to Mash, on the morning of 1 February, the former Fox News host was spotted at Istanbul airport while boarding a Turkish Airlines flight to Moscow.

What did Tucker Carlson Say In His Statement

In a 4 minutes 28 second long video released on X, formerly Twitter, and his website Tucker Carlson Network (TCN) on Tuesday, the former Fox News start host said that he was doing an interview with the Russian President.

“We’re in Moscow tonight. We’re here to interview the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin,” Tucker said.

Tucker Carlson added that there were “risks” to conduct an interview like this but he and his team have thought about it carefully “over many months”.

Tucker on Why He’s Interviewing Putin

Tucker said that he was doing the interview because it was his job as a journalist.

“We’re in journalism. Our duty is to inform people. Two years into a war that’s reshaping the entire world, most Americans are not informed,” he said.

“They have no idea what’s happening in this region, here in Russia or 600 miles away in Ukraine. But they should know, they are paying for much of it in ways they might not fully yet perceive,” he added.

Calling the war in the Ukraine a “human disaster”, Tucker said that the long-term effects of the war are even more profound.

“This war has utterly reshaped the global military and trade alliances, and the sanctions that have followed as well,” he said.

“And in total, they have upended the world economy,” Tucker added.

Tucker Carlson said that while most US media outlets have interview Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky but none interview the other leader involved in the conflict – Vladmir Putin.

Tucker also informed that he has also put a request for Zelensky’s interview and hoped that the Ukrainian president accepts it.

“American have a right to know all they can about a war they’re implicated in, and we have the right to tell them about it because we are Americans, too,” he said.

“Freedom of speech is our birthright. We were born with the right to say what we believe. That right cannot be taken away no matter who is in the White House. But they’re trying anyway,” Tucker Carlson added, suggesting Biden administration was trying to stop his Putin interview.

“Almost three years ago, the Biden administration illegally spied on our text messages and then leaked the contents to their servants in the news media. They did this in order to stop a Putin interview that we were planning,” Tucker said.

“Last month, we are pretty certain they did exactly the same thing once again, but this time we came to Moscow anyway,” he added.

Tucker Carlson further said that he and his team was not in Moscow because “we love Vladimir Putin” but “we are here because we love the United States, and we want it to remain prosperous and free”.

He further informed that the trip to Moscow was paid entirely by him, and that no money was taken from any government or group.

Tucker Carlson said that the interview will be available on TCN website without paywall and on X.

“We are not encouraging you to agree with what Putin may say in this interview but we are urging you to watch it. You should know as much as you can.. and then you can decide for yourself,” he said.
