Search on for Missing Military Helicopter Carrying five US Marines From Nevada To California
Authorities in San Diego country are looking for a Marine Corps helicopter reported overdue early on Wednesday.
The CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter was carrying five troops from Clark County, Nevada, to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California.
According to the US military, the five Marines were assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing at Miramar.
The sheriff’s department was reportedly notified at 1 am that the craft was overdue for arrival at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and was last seen in the area of Pine Valley, a mountainous region about 35 miles (56km) east of downtown San Diego.
The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing based at Miramar Air Station in San Diego is coordinating search and rescue efforts with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and the Civil Air Patrol.
This comes a waves of heavy rainfall hit the area throughout the night from an storm that has drenched California this week.
