New Poll Shows Trump Taking Lead Over Biden in Key Battleground States After First 2024 Debate

The race for the presidency has shifted significantly in favor of Donald Trump following the first 2024 presidential debate.

According to a recent poll, Trump now holds a 3-point lead over President Joe Biden across battleground states and a 2-point edge nationally.

Voter Motivation Key in 2024 Race, Poll shows

A crucial factor influencing this shift is voter motivation. Current data suggests that Republicans are more likely than Democrats to say they will “definitely” vote in the upcoming election.

This motivation gap could play a pivotal role in determining the election outcome.

High Partisan Loyalty Among Voters

The electorate remains highly partisan, with over 90% of both Biden and Trump supporters indicating they would never consider voting for the other candidate.

This level of loyalty has kept the race relatively stable for months, despite various political developments.

Biden’s support had increased slightly in June after Trump’s conviction in New York, but this did not significantly alter the overall race dynamics.

Electoral College Advantage for Trump

The current preference indicates a potential Electoral College advantage for Trump.

Half of Biden’s 2020 voters believe he should not run this year, according to the CBS News poll.

These voters are less likely to turn out in 2024 and more likely to choose either Trump or a third-party candidate, further complicating Biden’s re-election prospects.

Debate Boosts Republican Turnout

Following the debate, most Republicans reported feeling more motivated to vote, which has bolstered Trump’s position, the poll showed.

Independents also remain closely contested, with Trump making slight gains among them.

Nationally, Republicans have a similar turnout advantage across battleground states, reinforcing Trump’s lead among likely voters.

Impact of Third-Party Candidates

When Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein, and Cornel West are included in a national ballot test, Trump’s national lead over Biden expands to four points, the poll shows.

While Kennedy draws support roughly equally from both candidates, Biden loses slightly more to Stein and West, reducing his overall percentage.

Age and Cognitive Health Concerns

Both candidates’ ages are a factor for many voters.

Biden benefits among those who consider both candidates’ ages equivalent, leading Trump in this group.

However, Biden struggles significantly among voters who are concerned only about his age.

Following the debate, there was an increase in voters questioning Biden’s cognitive health and his suitability for the presidency, with seven in ten voters believing he should not be running.

Personal Qualities and Voter Perception

Biden has not gained ground on Trump in terms of personal qualities. Trump is seen as more competent, tough, and focused, while Biden is viewed as more compassionate.

This perception gap could influence voter preferences as the election approaches.

Battleground States Crucial for Election Outcome

The battleground states identified by CBS News poll —Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin—are expected to be decisive in the Electoral College.

These states will play a critical role in determining the next president.

Panic In Democratic Camp after Biden’s Disastrous Performance in CNN Debate

President Biden’s performance during the CNN Presidential Debate with former President Donald Trump has set off a wave of reactions across the media landscape.

Critics from various corners have voiced their concerns, with some even calling for the President to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Many Democrats expressed concerns about his delivery, verbal stumbles, and incomplete thoughts. Illinois Rep. Robin Kelly conceded, “It wasn’t Biden’s best night,” while Pennsylvania Rep. Madeleine Dean described it as a “bad debate”.

According to an Ipsos poll, Trump was the clear winner of the debate.

Sixty percent of the debate watchers polled in the poll said that Trump performed best, while only 21 percent said Biden performed best. Nineteen percent said they didn’t know.
