New Hampshire GOP Primary: Trump Widens Lead In Latest Poll As Haley Gains Ground, DeSantis Trails Behind

In the scenic and politically pivotal state of New Hampshire, the Republican presidential primary is shaping up to be a crucial battleground.

The race for the New Hampshire Republican presidential primary is intensifying, with former President Donald Trump maintaining a significant lead over his closest competitors, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Trump’s Popularity in New Hampshire

According to a recent CNN poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire, Trump holds 50% support among likely Republican primary voters in the Granite State, while Haley stands at 39%.

These results indicate a widening lead for Trump over Haley, with his popularity within the GOP base and the commitment of his supporters outweighing the appeal of his challengers.

The latest poll, conducted from 16-19 January 2024, among 2,348 New Hampshire adults, has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8% for likely Republican primary voters and plus or minus 3.5% for likely Democratic primary voters.

The survey results also reveal that most of the New Hampshire voters who participated have made up their minds, with over 87% indicating that they are either “not at all likely” or “not very likely” to change their decision before the primary.

Haley’s Gains in New Hampshire

Haley’s support has seen a significant increase, particularly among voters who are registered as undeclared and plan to vote in the GOP primary, as well as those who consider themselves ideologically moderate.

When Haley voters were asked if their vote was more a vote for Haley or against Trump, 46% said it was a vote against Trump and 47% said it was a vote for Haley.

However, despite her gains, Trump’s lead remains substantial, and the latest survey suggests that he is in a strong position to secure a victory in the New Hampshire Republican presidential primary.

DeSantis Second Choice

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is facing a challenging position in the New Hampshire Republican primary, as the poll indicated that his support in the state is at 6% or lower, compared to 50% and higher for Donald Trump and 39% for Haley.

However, a breather for the Florida governor in the state is that when asked for their second choice, 34% of those surveyed chose DeSantis.

This indicates that DeSantis has the potential to gain support from voters who may not initially support him but are open to considering him as an alternative.

Upcoming Primary and Candidates’ Campaign Activities

The upcoming primary on 23 January 2024, is expected to be a pivotal moment in the race, and all three major candidates, Trump, Haley, and DeSantis, have events planned in New Hampshire in the days leading up to the primary.

The dynamics of the race continue to evolve, and the candidates are making their final pushes to secure support from the voters.

Implications for the Republican Nomination

The latest poll results and the candidates’ campaign activities in New Hampshire are being closely monitored, as the state has long been seen as a critical battleground where candidates have the opportunity to stand out and gain momentum in the presidential race.

The outcome of the primary will have significant implications for the Republican nomination, and the candidates are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to secure victory.

As the race for the New Hampshire Republican presidential primary unfolds, the candidates are vying for support and making their case to the voters.

With Trump’s lead over his rivals, the primary is shaping up to be a crucial moment in the 2024 presidential election, and all eyes are on the Granite State as the candidates make their final appeals to the voters.
