Kamala Harris Releases Medical Report, Shifts Spotlight on Trump’s Health Concerns

In a strategic political move, Vice President Kamala Harris released a detailed medical report on Saturday, highlighting her physical fitness and mental sharpness as the 2024 election season intensifies.

As the campaign gears up, Harris’ team is using the medical report disclosure to raise new questions about the health and age of former President Donald Trump, who is 78 years old and seeking re-election.

Harris Declared in “Excellent Health”

In a letter accompanying the medical report, Harris’ physician, Dr. Joshua Simmons, emphasized that the vice president “remains in excellent health.”

He noted that Harris possesses the necessary “physical and mental resilience” to effectively fulfill the duties of the presidency, including roles as Chief Executive, Head of State, and Commander in Chief.

Simmons pointed out minor health issues in the medical report, including seasonal allergies and hives (urticaria), which have been managed with over-the-counter medications.

He assured that these conditions were never severe. Harris’ latest physical exam, conducted in April 2024, revealed “unremarkable” findings, with the only notable observation being her slightly low Vitamin D levels.

Additionally, the vice president has a family history of colon cancer, but no other significant personal health concerns were highlighted in the medical report.

Campaign Targets Trump’s Health and Age

The release of Harris’ medical report seems to serve a dual purpose—both demonstrating her fitness for office and casting a shadow on Trump’s health and age.

A senior Harris aide explained that the release underscores the importance of transparency, especially in light of Trump’s reluctance to share detailed medical information.

Trump’s health history has largely remained undisclosed, with the last substantial update coming nearly seven years ago.

In that 2016 report, Trump’s physician noted his high cholesterol, overweight status, and a benign skin condition called rosacea.

Since then, the former president has not provided any comprehensive updates on his health, despite repeated promises to release his medical records.

Trump’s Limited Disclosures

In response to inquiries from ABC News about Trump’s health, the former president’s campaign pointed to two letters released by former White House physician Rep. Ronny Jackson and Trump’s personal physician, Dr. Bruce Aronwald.

These letters, however, provided limited information.

Jackson’s letters, written in July 2024 after an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, focused on Trump’s ear injury rather than his broader health.

Meanwhile, Aronwald’s letter from November 2023 stated that Trump was in “excellent overall health,” though it lacked specific details.

Trump campaign Communications Director Steven Cheung defended the former president’s health, stating, “President Trump has voluntarily released updates from his personal physician, as well as detailed reports from Dr. Ronny Jackson… All have concluded he is in perfect and excellent health to be Commander in Chief.”

Cheung went on to claim that Trump’s rigorous campaign schedule contrasts sharply with Harris’, asserting that she struggles to meet the demands of campaigning.

Transparency Concerns Surrounding Harris

While Harris’ medical report provides more insight into her health than previously available, her history of medical disclosures has been sparse.

In contrast to President Joe Biden, whose physician regularly issues memos following physical exams, Harris had not previously released detailed health information.

Only her 2021 check-up was announced, and the results from that visit were not made public. Additionally, in April 2022, the White House revealed that Harris tested positive for COVID-19 and was treated with the antiviral drug Paxlovid.

Shifting the Political Age Debate

Harris’ decision to release her medical report is a clear indication that the political dynamics surrounding age have shifted.

Trump, who frequently targeted President Biden’s age during his previous campaigns, now finds himself the oldest candidate in the race.

With Biden no longer running, Harris and her team are using this to their advantage, positioning Trump’s age and health as critical campaign issues.

The Harris campaign has already launched an ad targeting Trump, highlighting his age and suggesting that his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, could end up in the Oval Office if Trump were to face health challenges.

The ad features clips of Trump seemingly slurring his words, raising concerns about his fitness for office.
