Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign has reporteldy garnered nearly $50 million in grassroots donations since President Joe Biden announced his decision to suspend his re-election bid and endorsed her.
“Since the President endorsed Vice President Harris yesterday afternoon, everyday Americans have given $49.6 million in grassroots donations to her campaign,” the Harris campaign informed Fox News.
This impressive figure represents contributions across all platforms, including ActBlue.
Kamala Harris declared her presidential campaign on Sunday afternoon, just after Biden revealed his decision to withdraw from the 2024 race.
This move came amid increasing pressure from within the Democratic Party, with many lawmakers urging Biden, 81, to step aside.
The party’s leadership was reportedly working to convince Biden that he could not secure a win against former President Trump, the 2024 GOP nominee, in the upcoming general election.
In a public letter, Joe Biden expressed his unwavering support for Kamala Harris, stating, “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. While it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”
Biden plans to address the nation later this week regarding his decision.
Biden’s endorsement was also shared via social media, where he reiterated his confidence in Harris, writing, “My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
The president’s endorsement has already made a significant impact, with Kamala Harris receiving endorsements from several prominent figures, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and more than 178 Democratic lawmakers in the House and Senate.
In a statement following Biden’s announcement, Harris expressed her gratitude and determination, saying, “I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election. And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.”
Kamala Harris praised Biden for his leadership, stating, “Thank you for your extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for your decades of service to our country. Your remarkable legacy of accomplishment is unmatched in modern American history, surpassing the legacy of many Presidents who have served two terms in office.”
Biden’s endorsement was swiftly followed by endorsements from former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, a major Biden campaign donor, also endorsed Harris.
Former President Obama has not yet endorsed Harris, preferring to support a process that allows an “outstanding” nominee to emerge.
In a letter, Obama expressed confidence in the party’s ability to navigate the upcoming challenges and praised Biden for his patriotism.
“Joe Biden has been one of America’s most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me. Today, we’ve also been reminded — again — that he’s a patriot of the highest order,” wrote Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Notably, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer have not yet endorsed Harris.
The coming weeks will likely see further developments as Kamala Harris continues to build her campaign and seek additional support within the party.
