Jake Paul continued his boxing career with a stunning sixth-round TKO victory over bare-knuckle fighter Mike Perry on Saturday night in Tampa, Florida.
This eight-round cruiserweight boxing match saw Paul floor Perry three times before the referee stopped the bout at 1:12 of Round 6.
“He’s tough as nails… but I just hit too hard and he took a lot of damage,” Paul said after the match. “Mike Tyson, you’re next… It’s anyone, anytime, anyplace.”
With this win, Jake Paul keeps his highly anticipated Nov. 15 showdown with the 58-year-old Mike Tyson on track.
Originally scheduled for the same night as the fight against Perry, the bout will now take place in Arlington, Texas.
Paul, who was a -475 favorite according to ESPN BET, revealed he was sick leading up to the fight and that his knuckle was “basically broken.”
Jake Paul, 27, from Cleveland, Ohio, maintained his impressive boxing record, moving to 10-1 with 7 KOs.
In contrast, Perry, a 32-year-old former UFC fighter from Orlando, Florida, fell to 0-2 in his boxing career.
Jake Paul, who enjoyed a three-inch height advantage, dominated the fight from the beginning.
He scored a flash knockdown in the opening round with a powerful right hand and controlled the action with his superior jab and footwork.
A well-placed jab set up another knockdown 30 seconds into Round 2.
Although Perry rebounded with a strong Round 3, opening a cut over Paul’s left eye, Paul regained control in Round 4.
Jake Paul’s combinations repeatedly rocked Perry, ultimately leading to the fight-ending sequence in Round 6.
“You did a great job, you were way too fast for me and I couldn’t adjust,” Perry acknowledged. “He’s not sitting there waiting to be hit like me.”
Jake Paul’s next challenge will be an eight-round heavyweight bout with Tyson, where both fighters will wear 14-ounce gloves.
This bout, scheduled for Nov. 15, will be streamed on Netflix.
Tyson had initially withdrawn from their fight due to an ulcer flare-up during a flight in May.
Paul’s victory over Perry was his second fight of 2024, following a first-round KO of journeyman Ryan Bourland in March in Puerto Rico.
“In two years I will be the cruiserweight champion of the f—ing world,” Jake Paul confidently declared.
“I’m way sharper, cleaner. I think he hit me with like one shot tonight… It’s back to the drawing board and I’m going to just keep getting better.”
Amanda Serrano, a former seven-division champion, secured a second-round TKO victory over Stevie Morgan in the junior welterweight co-feature, setting the stage for a Nov. 15 rematch with Katie Taylor.
Serrano, from Puerto Rico, dominated Morgan, who was fighting at the top level for the first time, landing at will and prompting the referee to step in.
“I think these girls mistake my kindness for weakness,” Serrano stated. “If you’re not on my level, that’s what happens. I know she didn’t have the experience, I know this might have been a little too much for her.”
Serrano, who now has a record of 47-2-1 with 31 KOs, fought for the first time since October when she outpointed Danila Ramos.
Her Puerto Rico homecoming main event in March was scrapped due to an allergic eye reaction to hair braiding gel.
The rematch with Katie Taylor, scheduled for Nov. 15, will be for the undisputed junior welterweight championship.
Taylor won their first encounter by split decision in April 2022, retaining the undisputed lightweight championship in the process.
The rematch, initially set for May 2023 in Dublin, was postponed due to Serrano’s injury.
Taylor, a 35-year-old Irishwoman, holds a record of 23-1 with 6 KOs and is also ESPN’s No. 3 pound-for-pound boxer. “Can’t wait to go in there with you once again,” Serrano said. “This time it’s going to be a lot different.”
