Eric Adams Indicted: First NYC Mayor to Face Federal Charges

At the break of dawn on Thursday, nearly a dozen federal agents arrived at New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ official residence, Gracie Mansion, marking an unprecedented moment in the city’s political history.

This raid came just hours after Adams became the first sitting mayor of the Big Apple to be indicted in a federal investigation.

The agents, dressed in formal business attire, entered the mansion around 6 a.m., carrying briefcases and large bags.

Photos taken by The Post revealed at least two SUVs at the scene, displaying “Federal Law Enforcement” parking placards.

Another black SUV, suspected to be a prisoner transportation vehicle, was seen pulling into the property, complete with a steel partition separating the front and back seats.

Adams’ Attorney Blasts Federal “Spectacle”

Adams’ lawyer, Alex Spiro, quickly condemned the early morning raid, characterizing it as a public spectacle.

In a statement to The New York Post, Spiro expressed frustration, stating, “Federal agents appeared this morning at Gracie Mansion in an effort to create a spectacle (again) and take Mayor Adams’ phone (again).”

He clarified that the NY City Mayor had not been arrested but acknowledged that authorities took the mayor’s phone, despite the legal team’s willingness to hand it over voluntarily.

Spiro maintained that Adams is prepared to face the legal challenges head-on. “He has not been arrested and looks forward to his day in court,” he added.

Indictment Connected to Alleged Turkish Campaign Contributions

The indictment, which sources say will be unsealed by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, is expected to outline charges related to allegations that the Turkish government funneled money into Adams’ mayoral campaign.

In exchange, Adams allegedly facilitated the approval of the Turkish Consulate in Manhattan.

Though the specifics of the charges remain unclear, sources have indicated that the New York Mayor is not expected to surrender to authorities until early next week.

A source close to the mayor commented on the gravity of the situation, saying, “I hope whatever they have is compelling because their credibility is on the line now.”

Adams Maintains Innocence, Calls for Immediate Trial

Despite the escalating legal situation, Adams has remained defiant. He issued a bold statement, maintaining his innocence and framing the investigation as a politically motivated attack.

“I always knew that if I stood my ground for New Yorkers that I would be a target — and a target I became,” Adams declared.

“If I am charged, I am innocent, and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit,” he continued.

In a follow-up video message, the mayor reinforced his commitment to his role, pledging to stay in office and demand a swift trial.

“I will request an immediate trial so that New Yorkers can hear the truth. New Yorkers know my story. They know where I come from. I have been fighting injustice my entire life,” he asserted.

He further expressed his frustrations with the federal government, particularly in regard to its handling of immigration, which he said has exacerbated the city’s shelter crisis.

“Despite our pleas, when the federal government did nothing as its broken immigration policies overloaded our shelter system with no relief, I put the people of New York before party and politics,” Adams said.

Support Behind the Scenes

While Adams faces mounting legal pressure, sources close to him claim that he has been receiving significant support from allies.

“There’s no doubt that Mayor Adams is in for the fight of his political life,” a source said, “but there’s a lot of love and backing for him behind the scenes.”

The upcoming days are likely to be pivotal in determining both Adams’ legal standing and his future as mayor of New York City.
