49 Drone Sightings in a Day: New Jersey Residents Fear for Safety Amid Government ‘Inaction’

Residents of New Jersey are growing increasingly frustrated by the government’s lack of answers regarding dozens of mysterious drone sightings across the state.

With reports intensifying since mid-November, many are threatening to take matters into their own hands if officials fail to address their concerns.

Public Frustration Reaches a Boiling Point

James Ward, a realtor from Jersey Shore, captured footage of what he described as “SUV-size drones” hovering above Island Beach State Park on Sunday.

His Facebook post, accompanied by a video showing lights in the night sky, ignited fierce debate.

“Dozens of SUV-size drones in all directions,” Ward wrote. “Emerging at the same time and flying over the ocean and then heading in different directions—what do you think?”

Comments on the post reflected growing frustration and a readiness to act.

“A good shotgun will fix that problem,” one user replied.

Another questioned why no one had shot down a drone to investigate its origins.

Experts and officials, however, warn against such actions.

Shooting down drones is illegal under federal law, as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) categorizes drones as aircraft.

Violators face hefty fines or even jail time.

State and Federal Leaders Demand Answers

Amid the growing tensions, Governor Phil Murphy and two Republican congressmen have called on federal authorities to take decisive action.

Despite weeks of investigations, the origins of the drones remain unknown, and some sightings may even involve manned aircraft rather than drones.

White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby stated, “Upon review of available imagery, it appears that many of the reported sightings are actually manned aircraft that are being operated lawfully.”

Still, the lack of clarity has left state officials dissatisfied.

Republican State Senator Joe Pennacchio wrote to President-elect Trump, urging a federal investigation. “Without answers, we have no idea whether the citizens of our state are safe,” Pennacchio said.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Weighs In

Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed her frustration in a fiery video posted to her X account.

“They can track down a guy that just killed a CEO, but they can’t identify what nightly drones are and where they’re coming from,” Greene said, referencing a recent unrelated arrest.

“If our great government can’t identify what these drones are—they’re flying every single night, people are sitting out there videoing with their cell phones—then no American is safe,” Greene added.

She criticized the federal response as “total bullshit” and suggested it highlighted broader national security failures.

FAA and Military Investigations Ongoing

The FAA has issued temporary flight restrictions in certain areas, including near Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, as investigations continue.

Officials from Picatinny Arsenal, an Army installation, also requested a flight restriction through December 26 due to the surge in reports.

“We look into all reports of unauthorized drone operations and investigate when appropriate,” an FAA spokesperson said.

“Drone operators who conduct unsafe operations could face fines up to $75,000.”

Broader Implications

The mystery has captured national attention, with parallels drawn to other recent drone-related incidents.

For instance, in Southern California, authorities arrested a Chinese national for allegedly flying a hacked drone over Vandenberg Space Force Base to photograph its layout.

“There’s no known connection between that case and the New Jersey sightings,” said United States Attorney Martin Estrada, “but it underscores the importance of securing our skies.”

Growing Public and Political Pressure

As federal investigators scramble to identify the drones, public pressure continues to mount.

Residents report feeling unsafe, with 49 sightings recorded on Sunday alone, mostly in Hunterdon County.

At a recent hearing, FBI leaders provided little reassurance.

When asked if Americans were at risk, FBI Assistant Director Robert Wheeler admitted, “There is nothing that is known that would lead me to say that, but we just don’t know. And that’s the concerning part.”

With no immediate answers in sight, New Jersey residents are left grappling with unease. Whether the drones are a harmless anomaly or a security threat remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: patience is wearing thin.
